needed a replacement filter and this is the most convenient way to get it.
Bonus: a year later when you have to buy a new one, you don't have to start the chase of the right filter for the right price - just look into your old purchases and reorder it.
The filter itself is shrink-wrapped and then inside a small branded cardboard box (single unit / 1-pack).
just unpack, pull the sticker that covers the opening (like a yogurt) and then soak/fill with water.
replacement is easy thanks to the bayonet mount: push and turn until it clicks into place. Doesn't make a mess either.
Then you have to run X amount of water through your fridge (it says it on the filter and the instructions on the box) to flush the line inside your fridge... Done...
I love my fridge with the ice maker and cold water dispenser; the water is delicious because of the filter and that's why I change it when it's due (once per year for me).

Actually love this filter the water tastes great with this one unlike some others we have tried. My husband even likes the taste enough to drink from the fridge (which he wouldn’t before) Also like that it alerts you when it’s time to swap it out.

Did much research on filters before purchasing, and was skeptical about this fitting my model, but it worked Great! My wife and I inherited our first fridge and the filter had not been replaced for a few years.. I was worried about spending so much on the filter, but seriously, worth every penny. You can't put a price on health, and the water never tasted so clean! It seriously didn't taste like anything. That's how I know it works.

Easy removal and install. Flow rate more than doubled after replacing used one. No leaks. Hassle free.

If you read the many reviews of this filter you will see a virtual blog about whether it's filtering everything out of your water. Even Harvard PhD chemist has weighed-in.

I asked a PhD Chem Engineer colleague to comment. He said that the filter is not intended to be like a reverse osmosis machine which filters everything and I mean everything out of the water so that you have virtually distilled water. It is an activated carbon filter and is more for large particles which are mostly organic, some bacterias, and to make those waters that have a chlorine smell to smell and taste better. That's it... end of story.

Anyone who thinks this filter is supposed to do more for $35 is goofy. I've bought it, used it and it makes my water taste noticeably better than the tap water from which it is filtered.

If you don't like it, then use a plug in place of the filter and just let the tap water come straight through the system.

A perfect replacement filter for the GE Profile refrigerator. It is equivalent to original GE filters because it IS a GE filter. Our GE side by side refrigerator has orange and red indicator lights to let you know it is time to change the filter. The orange is a warning that it is near time to replace, and the red is a change me now indicator. I always change the filter soon after the orange light comes on and don't know how much leeway there is between the two lights. Under our normal use, a filter will last about 11 months.

The taste of the ice and water from this filter is equivalent to or better than most bottled spring water or commercial ice. That is saying a lot as the water in central Florida has a great deal of mineral content that detracts from the taste of our city water.

I have a GE water dispensing refrigerator and would not be without this filter. I sometimes lasts 5-6 months and I get clear, fresh tasting water and ice cubes. I did once try a generic filter that fit into the refrigerator, however it only lasted 2 months after which time the water stream diminished substantially and the water started tasting brackish. I have had my refrigerator since 2008 and I can firmly say that there truly is no other brand of filter for me. Definitely worth the cost, especially when one compares the cost of bottled water with the cost of the water you will be getting when using this filter in your fridge. Oh, one should be mindful of any water main work which might be done in the street, as the particulates and sediment released when the pipes are disturbed can get into your filter through the water system. This may cause it to clog somewhat and affect the longevity of the filter. It did happen to me once, however, the filter did block the sediment and gunk and my water was still clear and fresh.

First, let me start by letting you know that I live in the Toledo, OH area, and am an indirect customer of Toledo's city water. Toledo has been very negligent in maintaining their water treatment facility over several decades, and it can't properly filter some of the microcystins that more modern treatment facilities can. Another toxic algae bloom formed on Lake Erie (a big thanks to the polluters for endangering our water supply), and drifted near the water treatment facility's Lake Erie intake, contaminating the drinking water. Thanks to our local media, panic ensued, and folks bought up all the bottled water at stores, and water filters. Restaurants were closed, and many citizens didn't realize that it wasn't a nationwide water apocalypse--you could drive 15 minutes to a town that had it's own water treatment facility and stock up. When the great water catastrophe was over (3 days), customers had to flush their pipes and appliances. That's when having a spare filter like this on hand really helped. Buy a few from Amazon and save over buying them locally, keep a case or two of bottled water handy, and you'll be able to ride out the next water catastrophe in style. Just beware of those pesky walkers.

This is the OEM Replacement filter for GE refrigerators. Even though this filter is more expensive than most after market filters, it's certified to both NSF/ANSI Drinking Water Treatment Standards 42 & 53 which isn't the case with other after market replacement filters. The price is competitive when you consider the difference in water filtration and water quality which is important if you frequently use the refrigerator water dispenser. You might not notice a difference in taste but the quality difference is important for your health. I wouldn't buy any other replacement filter.
